Like me, some of you probably still remember the days of yore, when the hashtag #BelieveAllWomen trended regularly across social media platforms. A partner of #MeToo, the slogan demanded that a patriarchal culture which frequently ignored or invalidated the experiences of women should smarten up and start taking women seriously. Some pointed out that #BelieveAllWomen was premised on a presumption of guilt, but this was brushed aside. It was time for people — specifically, men — to listen.

That all seems so very long ago. These days, the hashtag seems to be #BelieveAllMen. Let’s look at a few recent examples.
There’s the story of the guy posing as a cheerleader who got booted from the squad for attacking one of the girls.
A biological male, calling himself Averie Chanel Medlock, identifying as female who had joined a Texas cheerleading camp allegedly choked a female teammate, earning him a criminal citation. “Well guys I’m officially retired as a cheerleader as of last night at 5:30 AM,” he wrote on Facebook last week.
“A girl on the team was being very disrespectful and told me I am a MAN with a PENIS and that [guys] should not be on the team. I stood up for myself and she called her mom and dad because she was scared…Her father said ‘she still has testosterone and a penis and I will kill anyone who comes after my daughter.’”
It is natural for a father to be furious that his daughter and other girls had to lock themselves in a room while a delusional, angry man shouted profanities outside the door. It is unnatural for a grown man to pose as a cheerleader and expect to be taken seriously.
There’s also the recent story in the New York Times about Marceline Harvey, who turns out to actually be a man — a transgender serial killer. In 1963 he murdered a girlfriend with a gun; in 1985 he stabbed another and left her corpse in a bag in Central Park.
He was released in 2019, got a sex change, and then killed 68-eyear-old Susan Leyden. It took Madeleine Kearns over at National Review to point out the obvious — that despite how the Times covered the story, Harvey is a violent man with a violent record of killing women. Violent men claiming to be women are now obediently referred to as women.
And what happens to #BelieveAllWomen when we have a woman sharing her experience, and person with a penis who disagrees? A University of Kentucky Swimmer, for example, recently stated that competing against Lia Thomas, a young man claiming to be a woman, caused her “extreme discomfort” because she had to change next to him and he had “different parts.” In fact, Riley Gaines noted that the female swimmers weren’t even told that Thomas would be using their changing room.
“That’s not something we were forewarned about, which I don’t think is right in any means, changing in a locker room with someone who has different parts,” she said. “So not only were we forced to race against a male, we were forced to change in the locker room with one…I think people forget that women’s sports were a protected group. The category was made because the playing field was not level by any means when you have them competing against men.”
But according to our cultural elites, Riley Gaines and her fellow swimmers are just losers. Thomas, on the other hand, was actually nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year.
So on one side, we have women—swimmers, cheerleaders, and even female prisoners locked up with inmates calling themselves transgender. On the other hand, we have biological males with the strength, physical characteristics, and genitals of men.
The women are saying that they do not want to compete against the men, or bunk with the men, or change next to the men — and they are being told to shut up. Their experiences don’t matter. Their comfort levels don’t matter. Their safety is meaningless.
But the men?
When they say they’re women, everyone from the mainstream media to the president of the United States obediently falls in line, whether the men are swimmers, cheerleaders, or serial killers. Their word is, in many places, quite literally law.
As it turns out, #BelieveAllWomen lasted only a few years. The patriarchy is back, it’s in drag, and #BelieveAllMen rules the day.
